Surprise

I like surprises. The rush of wonder and discovery. That sudden feeling of astonishment and adrenaline. Yeah. Surprises can be good. I prefer the good kind, anyway. Who wouldn't?

My favorite surprises might be: a) When Joshua Radin or Brett Dennen come on The Weepies Pandora station. b) When I find a few extra dollars in my purse. c) When soccer practice is rained out. (did I just say that?) d) And who could forget when Jeremy surprised me with a new car on Christmas morning eight years ago?

Yes. Surprises can be fun. Nana and Podge pulled off the ultimate surprise on Christmas day, walking in the door--unannounced--to a gaggle of squealing, giggling, hugging kids. What a memory.

Some surprises are a little more shocking in nature. I didn't know what to think when Rose caught Joe Jonas with his pants down.

And talk about shocking. I was flipping through my photos, and found this big kid lurking around.

Yes, I'd say he's definitely made the transition from puppy to dog.

One of the best surprises of late was when Jeremy got hair for Christmas. I was surprised at how perfectly it matched his beard. I was not surprised, however, that along with the hair would come a new...disposition?

Surprises are fun until you get one that knocks you off your feet. When you get a surprise that puts a kink in your plans (and a bulge in your vericose vein). It's hard to turn your brain around on a dime. Lately, I've gone from dreaming of a trip to Disney World to weird pregnancy dreams interrupted by frequent bathroom breaks. I've gone from excitement over my almost nine year diaper streak ending to dread of it picking back up again in seven months. I've gone from envisioning a possible job for me in the near future to, well, not envisioning that.

God sure is a God of Surprises, wouldn't you say? All that He requires of me, really, is complete, unlimited trust in Him...and His plans. Well, that and a willing heart. I'm coming around. I just had to catch my breath for a month or so. Disney World isn't going anywhere. And I think I'm finally coming to the realization that my job as a mother of five is job enough for now.

It's going to be a crazy fun ride.

And we'll be ready by August. :)

I admire you, Katie. You are such a great mom and I can only imagine that finding out you were going to be having a fifth baby, when you thought you were done, must have been a bit overwhelming, to say the least! God will bless you for trusting in His plan.

P.S. I'm anxious to hear what your kiddos think about having another sibling?

Praise God from whom all surprises flow. He knew you were such good parents there needed to be one more human to receive from you! :) Love you and praying. We can go to Disney when you come if you want, just to at least say you still got to do it. :)
