Thomas joined StriXCtly Distance, a running club in our area. His main motivation was to improve his Dream Mile time, but it is quickly turning into something more than that. And let it be known it took me a month to figure out the XC in the middle of the word pronounced *strictly* stood for cross country.
He trained with the club for a week, and showed up at his first track meet having no expectations really, just hoping not to embarrass himself. And he won first place in the 1500 meter.
Wait. What just happened? Did this little let's improve my mile time for the Dream Mile turn into a sport for us?

The following week his team ran the 5K in Brenham at the Blue Bell Fun Run. Aside: I must really love my son to set my alarm for 5:20 on a Saturday for a run. With Thomas, the words Fun and Run don't really go together. It's always a competition, and he always wants to win.
Anna signed up for the 1 Mile race.
The reward for finishing? All the Blue Bell treats you could ask for.

And WIN they did. They won the team prize for the 5K. And Thomas was the first 11-year-old across the finish line.
