Things I Know

1. On the first day of school, Thomas came home from school and said, "I'm going to create a Movie Club at my school, where kids will come over to our house and make movies."  Well, okay then.  Thomas saved his money (and we matched it) and bought himself a little digital movie camera this summer.  He's had so much fun with it, and has even created his own YouTube channel.  It's pretty cute.  Anyway, here are the boys at their first Movie Club.  I had an off-screen line in the first movie they made.  I was "Off-screen Mom" and my line, which I'm sure will make me totally famous was, "Honey! Your meatloaf is ready!"  Thomas, you better give your mama full credit for her hard work on that line.

 2. I love Austin, Texas.  The ATX.  It is the home of the Longhorns, weird people, awesome restaurants.  And it's also the home of some of my favorite people.  My kids love their cousins.  What a gift it is to have cousins that you cherish so much that you welcome a 45 minute wait for your table because that's 45 extra minutes with your buddies!

 3. I adore the Fun. song Some Nights.  Why? Why Fun.?  Why drop the f-bomb in this otherwise perfect little ditty.  I'm having that trouble of late.  My kids and I fall in love with a song on the radio, only to realize we've fallen in love with the RADIO version of the song.  Argh.  We're so spoiled with our iPods and instant gratification.  Like a song?  Buy it on iTunes.  Kids these days (hahaha.  I said "kids these days") have no appreciation for the availability and easiness of buying music.  I remember waiting all day with my tape recorder next to the radio, the record and pause button both pushed, trying to catch my favorite song.  And when the song finally DID come on, Melanie or Lauren would open the door and start talking, ruining my recording, making me wait until the next day when they would play it again.  What?  Uncle Jonathan worked in a music store at the mall?  Tell me about this strange thing called a music store.

4. Sentences like this make me smile.  I heard it on the radio Monday.  You gotta love Houston.  "Later in the week, we'll be having Fall temperatures!  Look for highs in the mid 80s."  Nothing says fall like mid-80s temps and an iced pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks.

5. Thomas joined a new basketball league this fall.  Man, these kids are ballers.  It's fun to watch.  I remembered that the last time he was in a basketball league, I told myself I needed to read the manual to my camera so I could take good shots in the gym during a game.  I haven't done that, as you can tell...

I adored this post. I love that song, too. So does Calvin. The other day I heard him in his room singing "what do I stand for, what do I stand for, what do I stand for" over and over again. Cute. Boo about the F-bomb, though. Also, I think the song is actually really depressing and about war if you listen to the lyrics.

Thomas' club is brilliant and adorable. What a cool kid.
