It's a silly day of little to no relevance to a child born, in say, 2006. For Rose, everything happened yesterday. Lucy was born yesterday. She pooped on the potty yesterday. She had dinner yesterday. Santa came to her house yesterday.
or this:
It's a day where one overindulgent parent from each class will overcome hell and high water to find the perfect, sized 2T poodle skirt with matching bobby socks.
Come on.
Let's put this in perspective, shall we? My kids' grandparents were born in the 40s and 50s; my grandparents were born in the 20s and 30s. Don't you remember going to elementary school dressing up for 20s/Depression style day? Man, that was so fun. Happy times.
Next week, the preschool should have Baroque Day. Wouldn't that be rich?
My cynicism may or may not have anything to do with my not liking "dress-up days." I may or may not be harboring hard feelings for always hating 50s day when I was a child because my friends had "those" overindulgent moms. Mama would say, "Katie, just roll your jeans up and lace up the Keds. No one really wore poodle skirts much in the 50s anyway."

OH MY GOSH, exact same. I have pictures of me in a white button down and jeans and i was the ONLY girl not in a poodle skirt and already had short hair so i felt like such a boy. obviously, i have issues too. i support you.
YOu are cracking me up....so true!
Loved the post!!
Funny! I feel the same way.
Brooke recently had a father/daughter dance to attend and the theme was a "70s Groovy" theme. Didn't really care for it and she didn't get it at all.
Katie, you are dead on RIGHT!
The kids just don't get it anyway!
Hahahahahahahaha!!! ;)
