I am not naive. I know that time is not on my side, and that our darling family Christmases, complete with their tradition and joy, are numbered. Because just yesterday we woke up to Thomas's first Christmas, excited to discover what Santa had left for him. Yesterday.
There's Christmas Eve Mass, where we see our church family and celebrate the birth of Jesus. We come home and have Valerie's Famous Baked Potato Soup, then snuggle in to watch The Polar Express with our very own mugs of hot chocolate. Daddy reads The Night Before Christmas, and we expectantly put out cookies and milk for Santa, plus a little nourishment for the reindeer. The kids all sleep together in the same room, and the giggling doesn't last long because Santa is watching! There's the early morning wake up call consisting of ten feet on the black, spiral staircase into our bedroom so they don't spoil the surprise by coming down the main stairs. There's just joy.
